Personally....I like both step stools before you distressed either one of them....when they were just Provance Blue and Antebes Green. But that's just my personal taste....

I like the idea of staining the top and painting the legs on the drum table though....a whole two tone look.

Tracy's Trinkets and Treasures

I think the table should be walnut stain on top and white and distressed on bottom. My friend did something similar that you can see here http://goingalittlecoastal.blogspot.com/2010/11/round-table-revamp.html

Tracy - I love the link - that is perfect for this table and I'm following your friend now too - what a great site! Thanks again for the referal!

Sarah

How about using the grey (if you have it) I think underneath the white it would give it a vintagey look to it without "matching the already white dresser.

emily @ thehappyhome

i came over from miss mustard seed's link party-- i actually really like the finishes! but i agree with sarah above me-- maybe a bit of grey could tone down the white!

Stopping by from SNS at Funky Junk Interiors. Love the little benches. Lucky you to have Chalk Paint. The other table is a great shape, and it would really help to see what the rest of the intended room looks like. I like the way MMS leaves a stained top and then layers chalk paint and waxes the body. The colours would depend on the room. I'm off to see more of your blog.

I am partial to the "stain the top paint the legs" option. But at the same time, I don't think you could go wrong with either choice. :) Look forward to seeing what you decide.

I think the stain the top and paint the bottom concept definitely would work.
I also love the the inset panels on the top and wondering if there might be a cool way to highlight them. Maybe some sort of decoupage (old newspapers, floral prints, a landscape?) or tile inlay. It may be a bit much, but figured I'd throw it out there.

REBECKAH,
I THINK THE STAIN ON TOP AND THE BOTTOM PAINTED WOULD LOOK WONDERFUL... I GAVE YOU AN AWARD PLEASE STOP BY AND CHECK IT OUT....

I love the little stools! Perfect amount of distressing!

Dwelling in Possibility

I have done several pieces similar to your table. My favorites have been to keep the stain on the base and "highlight" small elements (like the vertical molding on the top) with a very suble "aged brass-like" painted finish to mimic the aged brass covers on the feet. I've also done distressed and antiqued white bases. The top then gets a faux marble painted finish. I've done dark green, burgundy, even pink, but basically, whatever coordinates with your room. Be sure to use several coats of glossy clear varnish to protect this faux finish. If you are painting outside, be sure to keep the piece out of the sun or the paint will bubble! You can also get a glass top for further protection if needed. Good Luck!

Aimee - When I wax I use Hannants clear and rustic wax (a mixture of both - it's awesome!!

I am hoping to finish this piece this week to show you guys!
